Book Review: Justin Bieber First Step 2 Forever: My StoryJan 22nd, 2011 | By Cloutwomen | Category: Books, On Our Shelf
The expressions on our faces were priceless when we received the latest book about (and by) Justin Bieber. “This person is a little too young to have an autobiography” we thought. But you have to hand it to the guy. If there was a current phenomenon that was in actual fact massive in all proportions, it would be the billions of “beliebers” that sprung across the entire planet.
His first album My World sent four songs into the Billboard Top 100 before the album debuted. My World was certified platinum within three months and became the first debut album ever to chart seven songs on Billboard Top 100. His latest album, My World 2.0, debuted at #1 on the charts, and has since sold over six million copies worldwide; making him the youngest male solo artist to top the chart since Stevie Wonder did it in 1963. His YouTube views top one billion. The video of his song “Baby” is the single most-watched online music video. He has sung for the President of the United States and now for the first time, Justin Bieber tells all in his new book, JUSTIN BIEBER – First Step 2 Forever: My Story, HarperCollins, @21.99, ISBN 9780062039743, 240 pages.
Growing up an only child in Stratford, Ontario, Canada, Justin was forever singing around the house and taught himself to play drums, guitar, piano and trumpet. At twelve years old, he placed second in a local singing competition. Justin channeled his passion into homemade music videos, which he posted on YouTube. The videos became a word-of-mouth sensation, garnering an astonishing 10 million hits and caught the eye of top music manager Scooter Braun and his partner, R&B Superstar Usher. They brought Justin to New York City to audition for L.A. Reid, Chairman of Island Def Jam Music Group, who signed Justin on the spot. And the rest, however quick it seems, is history.
In this, his very first book, Justin details his amazing and inspiring journey from small-town school boy to global wonder. Packed with exclusive, never-before-seen photos of Justin from childhood to superstardom is a must-have for any true fan. I imagine the wide eyes and the speechless expressions you’ll see once it’s revealed when the kids unload their Christmas stockings this year. However fame-filled the pages are, the true magic this book brings for me this season is the fact that Bieber values the strong bonds and gives a great appreciation to the people who mean the most to him; his family. Because admit it! Puberty is most often a tumultuous time when children back away and distance themselves from their parents. Many literary snobs may raise their eyebrows and grumble “what does he know? He’s just sixteen for crying out loud!” but as a parent of a tween, I will take all the help I can get , in any means or form to achieve that bond with my daughter the same way he does with his own mother. With a clout like Bieber has, I hope many will realize that this kind of unwavering allegiance can only come from your own family. And we parents truly mean well when we set limits.
BIG FAMILY CHRISTMAS
“That’s how we are in my family. Every person gives what they have. You can’t always get what you want but if you’re lucky, you get what you need. And I was lucky. Along with a lot of other blessings, I got my family – just the way they are. And now my extended family extends even wider to include Scooter, Carin, Kenny, Ryan, Dan and a lot of other people I’ll tell you about later in this book…” – Justin Bieber
