Kana Manglapus Projects presents Flight and Fable; it’s inaugural Los Angeles exhibition on Abbot Kinney with works by Brandy Eve Allen, Kwaku Alston, Chad Attie, Lyndie Benson, Andrew Cramer, Stephen Glassman, Gabrielle Revere, Adam Secore, and Hayley Starr opened on December 15, 2010 and can be viewed by appointment until February 15, 2011. The artists’ reception was held on January 20, 2011 and was very well attended.
The exhibition examines conflicted fairy tale worlds offering the viewer hope and transformation. From displaced angels, caged songbirds, ravaged princesses, wandering faeries, soaring phoenixes and magical muses — the work is both inspiring and prophetic. The show seeks to redefine the concept of the fable for our modern times; haunting, fragile and desperately in need of appreciation and pause. The work begs the viewer to question their ideas of what enchantment looks like today. Can it exist in a pure state? What does an angel look like in our complex world? This show brings together a diverse group of artists, who individually and in very different modalities have worked to address this very poignant question.
