The Fairmont Kea Lani Hotel in Maui
Mar 8th, 2011 | By Lulu del Rosario | Category: Hotels, Relax and RewindThe first time I ‘discovered’ the Kea Lani Resort was while I was working for a graphic semiconductor company and putting a sales conference together [am I dating myself here..do companies still do this?]. At the time, it wasn’t part of the Fairmont Hotels yet ~ but it immediately welcomed me! The Fairmont Kea Lani Suites and Villas has always been my Maui home away from home. I’ve been back about four times since, and each time ~ it was difficult to leave.
Our last Maui vacation was our longest. 14 glorious days. We hadn’t planned on staying there that long, but my husband, who spent six years in Oahu as a child ~ over indulged the ocean and ended up with a ruptured eardrum, necessitating a delayed departure (oh no, darn!!). We visited the entire island; north south east and west.
We explored the 10 most popular beaches and rated them. Big Beach in Makena was our favorite. We woke up early in the morning to watch the sunrise at the top of Haleakala and even biked down from the top of the volcano to the beach. The latter was such a trip! We loved the little town of Pai’a and spent a good amount of time in Kapalua (we stayed at a friend’s time share for a week then moved to the Kea Lani). We even did the road to Hana, which is not as scary or difficult as some make it out to be. Maui Ocean Center is a must see. And if you’re in Wailea, you have to stop and eat at Matteos. Many times.
I have a cd that brings back memories of this beautiful island. And this wonderful resort and it’s fabulous pools. The walk along Polo Beach was one of the highlights of our stay. We stopped and visited all the other hotels nearby.
Imagine waking up to a chocolate covered macadamia nut in this suite, which was similar to what ours looked like [note: i have photos but they're on another computer!! i would not have this problem if I had my photos stored in a cloud environment with About One!] Early morning breakfast reading the newspaper, enjoying Kona coffee and wondering which bathing suit to wear. Oh Bohemian, take me away again!
The hotel staff is over the top friendly. The bed, I wanted to take it home with me. It was freshly made every day with a piece of chocolate and an orchid wishing us a good night’s sleep.
The huge bath area has all the amenities you need so you can travel lightly. On one of my visits, I took my entire family of six and booked two suites. We never felt cramped. Oh just writing this post makes me want to go back!
Can you tell that I’m ready to not be in winter mode anymore?
Oh Bliss. Take me away again! In the meantime, Aloha! I will dream of your sand and waves and aloha plates and Maui Babe Tanning lotion and roll up beach mats and ABC stores. I will think of mai tais and mango margaritas (pool side!!) and tropical fruit.
I’ll be back!
