If you live in the peninsula region of the Bay Area, real estate is at a premium. Unless you’re blessed with a house with an acre of orchards and rose gardens, you’re probably wishing you had your own back yard to stroll or relax in, especially now that the weather is turning from “Where’s summer” to “Yay!! Summer!”
Well, don’t fret – because the mother of all backyards beckons.
English Renaissance garden is in full, splendid, breathtaking bloom. And if you haven’t been there this year, or at all, take a day off from work and head right over. Literally in our own back yard, off Cañada Road between the towns of San Mateo and San Carlos, Filoli is
one of the finest remaining country estates of the early 20th century, and an historic site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The
654-acre property, including the 36,000 square foot Georgian country house is open for tours now through the end of October.
There’s a lot to do at Filoli. Stroll around the garden now while the roses are an amazing color burst, and the peonies are coming alive. And lavender is everywhere!
Lavender is everywhere!
There’s jazz at Filoli in the summer, featuring an impressive line up of jazz artists.
