Michi Sushi ~ With Michi Shin, Life is Always Beautiful and Love is Spelled S-U-S-H-I
Oct 5th, 2011 | By Clout and About | Category: Food & Wine, Food / Wine / Restaurant ReviewsA few months ago, I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Sheen Michi Shin , the most gracious head chef of Michi’s Sushi in San Jose. His restaurant wasn’t that far from my daughter’s home and I had been hearing wonderful things about his ‘style’ of sushi goodness. Mr. Shin is a gentle soul, full of warmth and always smiling. He was excited as he explained how he named the sushi rolls on the menu after special people and corporations who frequent his restaurant. He had lots of stories to share, including where he sourced his fresh (each day) catch and it was a delight to listen to him. The menu is longer than you’ll see in most sushi diners; that’s because the man is forever inventing, always concocting and continually reinventing.
First, the food at the restaurant. We sampled some sushi love here.

This is not your regular sushi place. No way, San Jose!
Mr. Shin, his oldest son Mike Shin, Owner and CEO of Michi Sushi/Michi Catering , and a team of back office party planners have taken sushi dining up a notch. They’ve taken a pop up sushi crew to corporations and events such at the one for Donald J. Pliner below. They are also a favorite among Silicon Valley corporations, including Cisco Systems. Mr. Shin is known to hold sushi making classes as team building events.
And on a good summer afternoon, a party bus will take you out on a Sushi Wino event to a local winery. We attended s Sushi Wino event at Jason Stevens and it was a real experience. I apparently had forgotten what it was like in a party bus ~ especially on the way home!
Sake, anyone?
