Filoli – The Bay Area’s Most Magnificent Backyard

Tweet If you live in the peninsula region of the Bay Area,  real estate is at a premium.  Unless you’re blessed with a house with an acre of orchards and rose gardens, you’re probably wishing you had your own back yard to stroll or relax in, especially now that the weather is turning from “Where’s

Trapped by Zaré

Mind-blowing Persian food with a distinctly Californian twist in cuisine style and presentation is exactly what will keep you trapped and glued to your seat (or bar stool in my case) at Zaré at Fly Trap in San Francisco.

The appetizer is so unforgettable; the sapidity so right on the mark that it’s made this year’s 100 Things to Try Before You Die list

Crown and Crumpet – Keep Calm And Drink Tea In Fabulous San Francisco

Tweet I’m a self-confessed Anglophile.  I travel to London frequently for work or play, but my fascination with all things English has more to do with history and tradition than anything else.  As a high school student, I was enthralled with the story of Henry VIII and his disposable wives.  As I matured and buried

Extra’s Mario Lopez Tells Us To Eat Lean and Healthy, Put The Phones Down and Break A Sweat

Mario Lopez arrived alone, with no posse, publicist or security. In fact, I was waiting with Book Passage staff at the normal front entrance at Book Passage in the Ferry Building and he arrived from the back. He simply walked in, and charmingly said hello to those who had lined up outside for his book signing. I was pretty much used to celebrities arriving with a little bit more buzz and fanfare and was pleasantly pleased at his calm demeanor. He greeted the crowd and before he took a seat, he posed for photographs.

Castello di Amorosa Wine Notes – Our Resident Connoisseur’s Decanter

The gates to the Castello di Amorossa seemed normal enough, until you drive up the hill and witness the spectacular vignette of a 12th century medieval castle set in “Tuscany”, complete with orderly rows of grapevines and cypress trees. If I wasn’t sober at 11am, I could have sworn I was looking out of the walls of San Gimignano.

Maya Soetoro-Ng’s “Ladder to the Moon” A Poignant Magical Tale That Sings With Love and Lessons About Life

It was a match made in literary heaven and when you hold, see and read the finished product in your hand, you would never have imagined that the author and her illustrator were meeting for the first time. That was just one of many interesting facts I gathered from a Thursday afternoon luncheon with new author Maya Soetoro-Ng and her illustrator Yuyi Morales.

Family Sundays By Tradition and Back to Basics

Tweet Whoever said time stood still must have not been having a life.    Last night while I was processing some photographs taken over the weekend with my family, I realized that as this point in my Boomer life, I’m much more a spectator than a participant.  Behind my camera’s lens,  I’m capturing moments that are
